I am a political junkie. You can catch me listening to just about every political podcast available on iTunes or, when all else fails, streaming CNN 24/7 on my computer. This year, being an election year, I thought that I’d bridge my love for design with my obsession with politics (or political punditry). AIGA’s Get Out the Vote initiative asks people (not just designers) to submit a non-partisan poster and approved designs are displayed in its online gallery.
Setting aside my admittedly very partisan political beliefs, I decided to utilize the symbolic mascots and colors of both major parties – a blue donkey for the Democrats and a red elephant for the Republicans – to spell out the word VOTE.
To render the texture and different levels of opacity I wanted, I took designs done in Illustrator and half-toned them in Photoshop and then incorporated them back into the original Illustrator file.
Some initial sketches demonstrates changing placement of the donkey and elephant to form the letters, as well as some studies of textural application.
THANK YOU FOR VISITING.
