To introduce SideMark’s newest director, Soraya, to our clients and contacts, we designed and implemented an announcement campaign consisting of a press release, a short video series, and an email campaign. The email campaign design consisted of a list of fun facts that corresponded to each letter of Soraya’s name. Each letter is designed to reflect the associated fun fact.

I really enjoyed this project because I always strive for design that serves a dual purpose. I had to challenge myself to combine an illustration into a letter form, while preserving the recognizability of both.

Design is never done

After sending out the email campaign, I decided to refine a few letters that I thought could be improved. I just wasn’t very happy with how the R was integrated into the coffee cup and the very distinct outline in the letter Y.

S for Soraya

San Francisco born and bred

O for Soraya

Once started a kitchen fire and stopped a roof fire in the same weekend

R for Soraya

Resume of summer jobs include working in a mortuary, a car rental agency, a hotel, and a coffee shop

A for Soraya

Able to speak fluent Italian, broken Spanish, and enough French for a restaurant

Y for Soraya

Yes to travel adventures...Africa is next!

A for Soraya

Always has her bichon Midas following her every step

IDEATION SKETCHES

I started by sketching out how variations of the iconic SF skyline (GGB, downtown, etc.) can be incorporated into the letter S. And no, I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination.

ORIGINAL R AND Y

The email campaign was sent out with the following Rand Y. I was never very happy with them.

INITIAL ITERATION

Before coming up with the idea of visually tying together the fun fact with the letter, I designed some letters on textured clouds. It felt rather underwhelming.

THANK YOU FOR VISITING.
